EARTHQUAKE

Today when mama opened up the internet this is what she saw. The picture on the right is of Mimi's foster mom, grandparents and brother.
Although Mimi is from the Nanchong area, we received her in Chengdu where the earthquake happened. We are hoping and praying that our China family is all ok.

DR. MIMI

After dropping Mimi off at school today, Melissa (Jackie's mom) says that Mimi is in the classroom saying "Never fear! Dr. Mimi is here!" We all had a good laugh about that one.

MOTHER'S DAY CONTINUED

Last night at grandma and grandpa's our Mimi was a complete angel. Upon arriving home and putting Mimi to bed, mama and papa put on their jammies and went down stairs to a candlelit kitchen table, fixed a stiff drink and danced to Bobby Blue Bland's song "I Can Take You To Heaven Tonight" on the kitchen floor. That's one of mama's favorite songs to dance to.

MOTHER'S DAY DINNER AT GRANDMA AND GRANDPA' HOUSE

Who needs Disneyland? Today was a total roller coaster ride in our house. This morning started off with Mimi and papa giving mama their wonderful cards and butterfly kisses. That was yummy. Several hours later, Mimi did a 180 degree head spin and she started to spew out green pea soup. When I asked/told her to clean up her room and change her clothes, she says to me "but I am playing now!!!" Papa was getting ready to take her out to do errands with him so that mama could have just a bit of peace and quiet for once in a while. Mimi was not cooperating. So therefore instead of the usual jeans and t-shirt, mama dressed Mimi in a skort and instead of wearing her hair straight down the way she likes to have it all the time, it was put into a ponytail. Last but not least, papa took her out in his car which she absolutely does not like.
She likes mama's car the best because it is the fun one and we all like to have fun in our family. Mama told Mimi that since she did not want to listen to us, we are not going to listen to her desires. So off she went with papa in her skort and pony tail in papa's car and with the saddest face you ever saw. Such is the life of a 5 year old. It can be tough sometimes I guess.

While they were out papa called on the cell phone and mama spoke with Mimi for a few minutes. She was back to her old happy self again.

Not long after coming home, it happened. Another total MELTDOWN!!! Egads!!! It was driving mama nuts!!! I absolutely did not plan to have a Mother's Day like this. Finally, finally, finally, Mimi calmed down and took a short nap. While she was sleeping, papa went to get the Chinese take out and went to grandma's house. When Mimi woke up, both she and mama went over to grandma's and joined the rest of the family. By this time Mimi was actually civil and very well behaved. So much so that she had a wonderful time with her grandma and grandpa. I was so proud of her. We even had a hard time getting her to come home.

I think I will put my nightie on and go down and fix a glass of some kind of liquor because I sure feel like having one right about now. It has been an up and down day here at the Putney household. All is well again until the next time.

MORE MOTHER'S DAY CARDS

These are the cards mama received today from Mimi and papa. In actuality papa's card most resembles our everyday life especially when the neighborhood kids come over to play.

PIZZA PLAYDOUGH

Tonight Mimi and papa gave mama a break and had a father /daughter dinner at "The Rock" pizzaria. The people there were so smitten with Mimi that they gave her some pizza dough to play with. This is Mimi's impression of Homer Simpson (although she has never seen the cartoon).

SCHOOL SONGS

It seems that when mama was in school just a mere 30 years ago, we were singing songs such as Itsy Bitsy Spider and Old Mac Donald. Last year Mimi came home from school beep bopp'in around the house singing "Who let the dogs out? Woo...Woo".

Today while driving home from Chinese school she's singing "She likes to move it, move it..." and also James Brown "Baby, baby, baby..... Baby, baby, baby" At least she has soul in her rock 'n' roll.
